Founding and Early Years
In 1930, Georgetown High School was Federal Funds were obtained to construct the new Georgetown High School for $30,000.
Academic Excellence and Milestones
In 1931, the First Graduating Class of Georgetown High School consisted of two students. In 1951, the Georgetown High School ‘s first football team was established. In 1953, the construction of a cafeteria, a library, and a gymnasium completed the facility. In addition, the Georgetown High School Marching Band and choral groups were established. In 1957, Georgetown High School became the first and only accredited school in Onslow
County. Georgetown High School had the last graduating class in 1966. According to local history, there were as many as 18 feeder schools that sent students to Georgetown High School from throughout the county. The “school” rested on this site until it was partially destroyed by fire in May of 1966. The fire took away more than memories and buildings.
